Langport Surgery is a successful rural dispensing practice seeking an experienced and motivated Dispensary Manager to lead our dispensary team.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced dispensing professional who is passionate about patient care, medicines safety, team development and service improvement.

Working closely with the Practice Manager, Partners, Clinical Pharmacists and wider clinical team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, effective and efficient delivery of dispensary services while supporting the ongoing development of our dispensing operation.

Main Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the dispensary team, including recruitment, induction, appraisals and staff development.
• Oversee the day-to-day operation of the dispensary.
• Ensure compliance with all dispensing regulations, SOPs and practice policies.
• Manage stock control, ordering, procurement and medicines wastage.
• Lead DSQS submissions, audits and quality improvement initiatives.
• Ensure safe management of controlled drugs and cold chain processes.
• Monitor dispensary performance and identify opportunities for service improvement.
• Work collaboratively with GPs, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and the wider practice team.
• Support medicines optimisation and patient safety initiatives.
• Contribute to CQC readiness and clinical governance activities.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

• Has significant experience working within a GP dispensary or pharmacy environment.
• Has experience managing and developing teams.
• Has excellent organisational and communication skills.
• Understands dispensing regulations, governance and medicines management.
• Has experience of stock control, financial management and service delivery.
• Can work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Is committed to delivering outstanding patient care.

Essential Criteria

• NVQ Level 3 Pharmacy Services (or equivalent) or Pharmacy Technician qualification.
• Experience in a dispensary leadership or supervisory role.
• Knowledge of GP dispensing regulations and procedures.
• Strong IT skills and experience of clinical systems such as EMIS.
• Ability to lead, motivate and develop staff.
